Our goal of the Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt (BGLM) is to educate people in the art and science of bonsai. In an effort towards achieving that goal, BGLM has partnered with the East Bay Bonsai Society (EBBS) to help interested students get started in the study of bonsai. Highly trained EBBS members volunteer as teachers for the Introduction to Bonsai classes held at the BGLM Workshop on the fourth Sunday of each month (except February and December).

Upon completion of the class, you are invited to attend EBBS meetings and events to continue your bonsai education. EBBS meet at the Lakeside Garden Center, 666 Bellevue Ave., Lakeside Park, Lake Merritt, on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. to socialize and attend lectures about bonsai techniques by guest bonsai masters. EBBS also holds a series of workshops where members work on their bonsai.
