Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt is the permanent home for precious bonsai trees and suiseki viewing stones donated by outstanding artists and collectors for everyone’s enjoyment.

The beauty of this garden was achieved through the hard work and dedication by an all-volunteer force. The volunteer enthusiasm and commitment by various bonsai club members, their spouses and friends, plus the generosity of many non-bonsai volunteers, are the priceless assets of the garden.

Bonsai trees acquired for the garden collection number at about 150 and supply on a rotating seasonal basis approximately 90 for display. These trees require constant care.  Volunteers have taken on the duties of garden groundskeepers.  Volunteers help in all areas of garden care and maintenance.

There are a number of ways you can contribute to help maintain the beauty of our garden and behind-the-scenes operations.
