My first year managing the Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt is coming to cCenter Piece 12-14lose and, in this holiday season, I have so much to be thankful for. The many volunteers who make the Garden possible have accepted me as one of their family and seem to welcome the changes I have brought to the Garden. Our Garden is continuing to evolve as the center for Bonsai display and education in the Bay Area thanks to the support of all of you.

As a Garden supporter, you understand that BGLM is not just a central part of the bonsai community, but the bonsai community is also part of the Garden. We want the Garden to serve as a forum for dialogue, learning, social connection, and bonsai expression. Please help us continue our work and to share our love of bonsai with our visitors from around the world. Thank you for making the BGLM your bonsai museum. I hope you will continue to demonstrate your support by making a year-end gift to your Garden today. Just send a check made out to Bonsai Garden Lake Merritt to P.O. Box 16176, Oakland, CA 94610.

We are looking forward to celebrating our 15th Anniversary with you at the Mammoth Fundraiser this February 21 & 22. In addition to the Auction & Sale that has a well-deserved reputation for being the best place to buy and sell bonsai, we will have a brief recognition ceremony for those leaders who have brought us to this point in our development through a lot of hard work and dedication.

In addition, we are offering each bonsai club in the Bay Area an opportunity to set up a display that will promote their Club to our guests at the Mammoth. Each Club can reserve a 6′ table at no cost by sending an emailing request to [email protected] with your name and Club name.

The tables will be set-up after the Auction and remain up throughout Sunday, the 22nd, when they will be available for everyone to enjoy and meet with your Club members. Clubs are invited to be as creative as they wish in promoting themselves at the first time event. We want you to meet lots of potential members.

I look forward to seeing you in the New Year celebrating your continued support of your Garden. Have a wonderful holiday season.

Joe Byrd, Chairman
